Global auto tech leader Visteon begins in-house manufacturing in India with $10 million investment
Visteon, a world leader in automotive electronics and connected car solutions, has launched in-house production of its high-resolution camera systems and Display Backlight Units (BLU) at its Chennai plant in India.
This new setup includes analogue and digital cameras with resolutions ranging from 1.3 MP to 8 MP HD, offering much sharper visuals than traditional automotive cameras. These cameras are designed to work smoothly with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) — helping drivers park, turn, and drive more safely.
Local Production for Global Supply
With an initial investment of $10 million (approx. ₹83 crore), this move supports advanced manufacturing and creates new job opportunities in India. The company said that this expansion is part of its global vertical integration strategy, which means building more critical parts of the product in-house, from displays to cameras.
“India plays a very important role in our growth strategy,” said Sachin Lawande, President and CEO of Visteon. “By producing cameras and backlight units locally, we can grow faster, innovate better, and deliver modern cockpit technologies to the world more efficiently.”
What This Means for India
This expansion supports the ‘Make in India’ initiative and positions India as a growing hub for automotive technology. By making core components like cameras and BLUs locally, Visteon aims to:
-
Improve product quality
-
Speed up product development
-
Respond faster to market needs in India and abroad
-
Support India’s rise in high-tech auto manufacturing
Boosting Automotive Innovation in Chennai
Visteon already makes automotive displays in India. With the addition of camera and BLU production, it is now combining key stages of manufacturing under one roof. This helps maintain consistent quality and speeds up innovation, making it easier to serve both Indian and global carmakers.
Visteon’s new production lines in Chennai are now live and producing next-gen high-definition cameras and display units. This is not just a boost for the company — it’s a strong step forward for India’s position in the global automotive technology industry.
