A recent survey conducted by EdTech platform BrightCHAMPS reveals that 38% of Indian students are genuinely worried about the impact of artificial intelligence on their future employment. This concern is echoed globally, where 36% of students also share similar fears.
Global Survey Highlights
The study included 1,425 students from 29 countries, such as India, Vietnam, Indonesia, UAE, and the US. It reflects the increasing usage of AI tools by students, with 63% of Indian respondents using AI-powered platforms like ChatGPT regularly.
AI Use vs. Understanding
Despite widespread use, only 34% of Indian students say they understand how AI works. Alarmingly, 29% admit they don’t verify the accuracy of AI-generated responses, and 50% struggle to recognize whether an image or video is AI-generated. Around 20% have unknowingly accepted false information provided by AI.
Low Confidence in AI Skills
Only 10% of students globally feel confident about their AI knowledge. Recognizing this gap, 75% of Indian students advocate for AI education to be included in school curricula. Additionally, 56% feel they need guidance beyond school and family to navigate the AI world effectively.

Contrary to common fears, AI misuse for cheating appears limited. In India, 95% of students claim they have never used AI to cheat, a number higher than the global average of 86%. Most use AI tools to assist with learning, homework, language translation, and creativity.
